8ouncesmozzarella cheeseshredded
¼teaspoonground black pepper
Nonstick cooking sprayfor coating the slow cooker
Instructions
Coat the inside of a 6-quart crockpot evenly with nonstick cooking spray to help prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
Spread half of the frozen shredded hash browns across the bottom of the prepared slow cooker, forming an even layer.
Distribute half of the cooked and well-drained breakfast sausage evenly over the hash browns. Add half of the shredded cheddar and half of the shredded mozzarella, then scatter a portion of the sliced green onions over the cheese.
Repeat the layering process with the remaining hash browns, breakfast sausage, cheddar cheese, mozzarella cheese, and green onions, keeping each layer as evenly distributed as possible.
Crack the eggs into a large mixing bowl. Add the whole milk, salt, and black pepper, then whisk until the mixture is thoroughly blended and uniform.
Pour the seasoned egg mixture slowly and evenly over the layered ingredients in the crockpot. Allow the liquid to work its way through the cheese, sausage, and potatoes toward the lower layers.
Place the lid securely on the slow cooker. Cook on HIGH for 4 hours or on LOW for 8 hours, until the eggs are completely set in the center of the casserole.
Once fully cooked, portion the casserole into bowls or onto plates and serve while hot.
Keep the crockpot covered as much as possible during cooking. Frequently removing the lid allows heat to escape and may interfere with the cooking time and consistency of the casserole.
