Course: Appetizer, Dip
Keyword: Cranberry Walnut Cream Cheese Dip
Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 16 oz plain cream cheese softened to room temperature, approximately 70°F
  • 1 cup walnuts roughly chopped; pecans may be substituted
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons fresh orange zest finely grated
  • 1/4 cup honey preferably liquid; raw local honey may also be used
  • 1 cup sweetened dried cranberries

Instructions

  • Remove the 16 ounces of cream cheese from the refrigerator and allow it to reach room temperature. Proper softening makes blending easier and helps produce a smooth, creamy spread.
  • Blend with the honey. Transfer the softened cream cheese to a mixing bowl and add the 1/4 cup of honey. Beat with a hand mixer until the mixture becomes smooth, uniform, and thoroughly combined.
  • Stir in the 1 cup of sweetened dried cranberries, 1 cup of coarsely chopped walnuts or pecans, and 1 1/2 tablespoons of finely grated fresh orange zest.
  • Gently fold the ingredients into the cream cheese mixture until the fruit, nuts, and zest are evenly dispersed. Avoid excessive mixing so some of the larger nut pieces remain intact and provide texture.
  • Spoon the finished cranberry walnut cream cheese dip into a serving bowl and serve at room temperature with crackers.

Notes

For the best consistency and flavor, serve the dip at room temperature. If it has been prepared ahead and refrigerated, remove it from the refrigerator at least 20 minutes before serving so the cream cheese can soften.
Either walnuts or pecans may be used, depending on preference. Finely grated fresh orange zest distributes the citrus flavor more evenly throughout the dip.
