Ingredients

  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese shredded for smooth melting and a stretchy finish
  • 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 16 ounces bowtie pasta cooked
  • pounds frozen chicken nuggets
  • 1 cup finely grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 teaspoons garlic salt
  • 1 can 28 ounces crushed tomatoes, including the liquid

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven and prepare the pan. Heat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray to help prevent the casserole from adhering to the pan.
  • Prepare the pasta. Cook the bowtie pasta according to the package directions until it reaches an al dente consistency. Drain thoroughly to remove any remaining cooking water.
  • Combine the tomato mixture. Place the undrained crushed tomatoes in a large mixing bowl. Add the Italian seasoning and garlic salt, then stir until the seasonings are evenly incorporated.
  • Add the remaining components. Transfer the cooked bowtie pasta to the tomato mixture. Add the frozen chicken nuggets along with half of the mozzarella and half of the Parmesan. Stir thoroughly so the pasta and nuggets are evenly coated with the seasoned tomato sauce and cheese.
  • Assemble the casserole. Spoon the mixture into the prepared 9×13-inch baking dish and spread it into an even layer for consistent baking.
  • Add the cheese topping. Sprinkle the remaining mozzarella and Parmesan evenly across the entire surface of the casserole.
  • Bake. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake uncovered for 50–60 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbling and the cheese topping is melted and golden brown.
  • Rest and serve. Remove the casserole from the oven and allow it to stand for a few minutes before serving. Serve warm.
