Enjoy the rich, satisfying flavor of traditional lasagna with a fraction of the effort. This ravioli-based casserole offers a quick and hearty alternative, combining layers of frozen cheese-filled pasta, luscious marinara, and a trio of cheeses for a comforting weeknight meal.
1cupcreamy ricotta cheeseoptional, for extra richness
3cupsof your favorite marinara saucehomemade or store-bought
1teaspoonof dried Italian herb blend
2cupsof finely shredded mozzarella
125-ounce package of frozen cheese ravioli, used straight from the freezer
1/2cupof finely grated Parmesan
Nonstick cooking spray or a light brushing of olive oilfor greasing
Fresh basil or chopped parsleyoptional for garnish
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly coat a 9x13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray or a thin layer of olive oil.
Pour 1 cup of marinara sauce into the bottom of the prepared dish, spreading it evenly. Arrange half of the frozen ravioli in a flat, single layer over the sauce.
Spoon another cup of marinara over the ravioli. Evenly distribute 1 cup of shredded mozzarella, a generous scattering of grated Parmesan, and small dollops of ricotta (if using) over the top.
Repeat the layering process with the remaining ravioli, followed by the rest of the marinara sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan. Sprinkle the Italian seasoning evenly across the top layer.
Cover the baking dish securely with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
After 30 minutes, remove the foil and continue baking for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the top becomes golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Allow the baked casserole to rest for 5 to 10 minutes before slicing. If desired, garnish with fresh herbs before serving.
Using ricotta adds extra creaminess, but the recipe is still rich and satisfying without it. This dish pairs wonderfully with a side salad or crusty bread.
